Jack Dorsey Departs from Decentralized Social Media Platform Bluesky
Jack Dorsey, co-founder of Twitter, has left the board of Bluesky, the decentralized social media platform he created and funded in 2019. Bluesky confirmed his departure and expressed gratitude for his contributions. Dorsey had previously responded with a simple "no" when asked if he was still on Bluesky's board. The reasons for his departure have not been disclosed. Meanwhile, Dorsey has been promoting his grants for open interest protocols on X and referring to the Elon Musk-owned social network as "freedom technology." It was also noted that Dorsey unfollowed over 2000 people on X, leaving only Musk, Stella Assange (wife of Julian Assange), and Edward Snowden on his follow list. This suggests a possible reconciliation between Dorsey and Musk, despite Dorsey's previous criticism of Musk's management of X. Dorsey announced the creation of Bluesky in 2019, with the goal of developing an open and decentralized standard for social media. The platform launched in beta in March 2023 and opened to the public on February 7, 2024, currently boasting around 5.6 million users.
