Ore Cryptocurrency Wins Hackathon Despite Network Congestion
The experimental cryptocurrency Ore has won $50,000 in a hackathon supported by the Solana Foundation. However, Ore's impact on the Solana blockchain has been disruptive, as mining the currency caused network congestion and transaction failures. Ore is based on the proof-of-work mechanism used by Bitcoin but operates on the Solana blockchain. The project temporarily halted mining in April to address the network issues. Despite the challenges, Ore won the hackathon and plans to release a better version in the future. The price of Ore rose over 90% following the announcement of its hackathon win.
